This is an antique kesyou-mawashi(ceremonial apron for sumo wrestler).
It seems to be for sumo wrestlers.
It has samurai on white horse design, which is embroidered.
The embroidery is three dimensional and impressive.
Glasses are used for eyes.
Embroidery parts seems to be from Edo period(1603-1867).
Other pars are re-tailored in recent years.
The wrong side of embroidery and 'tesaki'(narrow end) are attached 'Jinken'(rayon) fabric with dragon circle design, which is woven.
The felt part is wool.
'kabuto'(ancient Japanese warriors' helmet) design is missing.
Although not shown on the figure, it has many missing threads, loose threads and snags caused by frays,
Threads are getting weak.
It has tiny stains and slight discoloration on felt parts.
For the details, please refer to the photos and figure.
Though it has some imperfections by ages, please enjoy its full taste of antique!
