This is a tasteful Tsume tsuzure Nagoya obi with 'Kikkou'(tortoise shell) and "Kiri" (paulownia) design, which is woven.
This piece was woven by Kawashima Weaving Co., one of the most famous obi weavers.
Shining gold foil threads are woven.
You can see the three lines and 'gunpai'(referee's fan) mark on the tare end, which are the evidence of Kawashima's obi.
Textile is tsuzure silk, and has rather stiff touch.
It also has "Hatsurikou" (small gap in the boundaries of colors), which is the distinctive feature of Tsume tsuzure weave.
It is sewn as hiraki-shitate(opened tailoring)
'Maegara' (front patterned part) is on one side.
When you start wrapping the obi from your right tummy to left (Rotate obi counterclockwise), the maegara will appear.

It was woven amazingly with "Tsume Tsuzure" technique. One thread by one thread, elaborately with nails.
It takes incredibly long time to complete. It has special kind of comfortable and medium touch of Tsume tsuzure silk.

It has prominent and tiny patinas on white parts of 'maegara' (front pattern on belly) and 'otaiko'(square bow).
Whitish spots of mold will be hidden if tied neatly.
It also has some other flaws such as slight folding lines.
For the details, please refer to the photos and figure.

Although not shown on the figure and photo, it has many and tiny spots of mold on the wrong side of 'taresaki'(end of part).

Though it has some flaws, it is still wearable enough.
Please enjoy its tasteful fashion!

*Kawashima Textiles Co.*

In 1843, company founder, Jimbei Kawashima, opened a fabrics store in Nishijin, Kyoto.
Now Kawashima has two ongoing businesses, traditional garments/textiles and interior products, such as curtains.
The three lines and Gunpai, referee's fan, emblem are the two significant marks of the brand.
The brand is famous because their products and design are elegant, detailed and sophisticated.
Their Hon Fukuro obi is especially highly evaluated for its comfortableness and evenness in thickness.
