This is an antique shoubou banten, firefighter's jacket.
It seems to be from Edo period (1603-1867) or Meiji peirod (1868-1912).

Fine Sashiko embroidery work is attractive.
Textile is cotton and has bumpy touch.

Cotton fabrics are sewn, so it is safe to be covered with sparks.
It has character 'Ya' design, which is dyed.
'Ya' means eight.
It seems that the firefighters had been wearing them inside out on purpose, after the big job of living.

It has prominent discoloration on the base allover.
It has missing threads by fray on the base.
For the details, please refer to the photos and figure.

Though it has some flaws by ages, please enjoy its full taste of antique!
