Price is not mistake.
This is a best fukusa we have ever came across.
This piece has fabulous treasure ship motif, and it is all embroidered. Its embroidery was done with top class technique throughout the Japan history.
In Meiji peirod ( 1868-1912), just after opened the country, Japan sent super mint art work at that time to the exhibitions all over the world. It was for exporting Japanese goods to the world.
This piece is made at that time for export. These rich embroidery couldn't be done by one craft man, so it was made through division of labor and specialization of many craft men. Before Edo period (1603-1867), embroidery fukusa was made of course, but they didn't have rich embroidery like these pieces. As you may know, later the embroidery work declined in Japan, and China become a major embroidery product center in the world.
This class of fukusa is very very rare also here in Japan. We want and collect more, but we maynot come across this class piece in future.
Please enjoy the detail photos, and please share surprise and amazement.
Right side has a tiny hole near a corner ( right under corner ), and has slight patina. Some parts have draft lines just near the embroidery.
The other side has some tears.
Museum class piece.
