This is a vintage Nagoya obi
with a design of 'kaiawase'(ancient shell matching game) and 'genjiko' (ancient Japanese incense), which is embroidered.
'Kiku'(chrysanthemum) and 'ume'(Japanese plum) are also designed on the shell motif.
The fine embroidery work has three-dimensional glossy beauty.
Textile is glossy shusu(satin) silk and jinken (rayon) blend.
When you start wrapping the obi from your left tummy to right(Rotate obi clockwise), designed side of Maegara will show.
Although not shown on the photo and figure, it has discoloration on the base by ages.
Also, there is a small teared part on the right edge of kaikiri(end mark) line.
It has some other flaws such as a folding line.
Please check photos for details.
Unfortunately, it is no longer wearable due to the weaken fabric.
However, we hope you enjoy its charming vintage design as a handicraft material!
