This is a vintage Nagoya obi
with a retro rose and vase motif against the black base, which is hand painted (not dyed).
This technique is called 'Pente', which was the replacement of dyeing when people were poor during/just after WWII.
Its deep shade is just like a painting.
Textile is glossy, black Shusu silk and has a soft touch.
The pattern of 'maegara' (front pattern on belly) is not same depend on the way to tie.
It has frays on 'tare'(wide end) end and the both all edges.
It has a tiny tear on the edge of 'otaiko'(square bow).
It has stains on 'maegara' (front pattern on belly), and when you start wrapping the obi from your right tummy to left (Rotate obi counterclockwise), the they will appear.
It has peeling spots of pigments on 'maegara' (front pattern on belly).
It has slight discoloration on the both all edges.
For the details, please refer to the photos and the sheet.
Although there are such flaws by ages, it has a romantic atmosphere.
Please enjoy its retro and charming design which only vintage items have.
