This is a gorgeous antique Uchishiki(fabric for Buddhist altar).
This piece seems to be from early Meiji period(1868-1912).
Stunning shishi(lion) and botan(peony) in 'tenjo-koshi'(checkered pattern in the ceiling) pattern are woven in alternate shifts.
With its eye-popping and the bridge of the nose of Shishi
give it marvelous three dimensional look with skillful Koma-dume embroidery work.
The fabric with its gorgeous embroidery work is cotton with soft comfortable touch.
The fabric above with woven cloud pattern is baldachin and some of the foiled threads are discolored.
As the figure shown, there are some flaws such as stains, tears, and discoloration.
