This is a marvelous antique uchishiki, fabric for Buddhist altar.
It has wonderful embroidery work of black carps jumping from the water surface.
Each of the carps' face is very dynamic and expressive.
Glossy black yarns well express the shine of the carps' black bodies.
Kinkoma embroidery of wave lines make it look even more luxurious.
Its right side is sleek shusu silk.
The backside is cotton.
It had to be made from a kimono of late Edo period(1603-1867) or early Meiji Period(1868-1912) .
There are several flaws including stains and discoloration over this whole item.
