This is rare cotton towel for baby, which is called 'yuage'. It has crane, tortoise, pine tree and ume blossom , which are painted with
tsutsugaki technicue.
Tsutsugaki technique had been frequently used for the items for the betrothed couples, for examples futton cover, 'yogi' ( kimono shape bedding ) , 'furoshiki' (square wrapping cloths, 'yutan'(furniture cover) and other ceremonial items. For this reason many
tsutsugaki items have auspicious motifs, such as crane, tortoise, pine tree, ume blossom, bamboo, 'takara'(treasures), 'noshi'(ceremonial bindings) and others.
In Izumo district, people have been ordered even baby towel with tsutsugaki-dyeing for the betrothed couples. This tsutsugaki-dyed yuage had been made only in Izumo district, and it is rare piece.
It has two holes and some stains. But this extremely rare piece will be an excellent interior decor.
