This kappa(rain coat) is from early Meiji period(1868-1912).
It is made of wonderful kasuri fabrics - outside and inside are made of different kasuri cotton, and both have wonderful design and soft touch.
They are hand spun and hand woven elaborately, and dyed with natural ai. They were not woven with usual machine-spun
cotton.
This piece is the wonderful historical textile sample of - wamen(Japanese cotton), hand spun, natural ai and hand woven cotton.
