This is an antique noboribata, flag of shrine.
Kanji character reads 'Hou-Sai-Rei' ( festival's dedication ceremony). It also has dedicators' names and age of the dedication ( Meiji 14 (1882)).
What a skilled and artistic character it is!
It is dye out white with
tsutsugaki technique. Background is deep
ai navy color.
Textile is medium thick cotton, which seemed to be hand spun and hand woven. It has soft touch.
It has some flaws as photos show, but as a whole it is in very good condition.
*Approx background color - deep natural
ai color
