This is a sarashi- it is actually a long solid white cotton fabric 35cm width x 10m long(approx 13.8" x 393.7")

This is used for many purpose- as a wrapping sash for prregnant women, sash to wrap around to keep the back from backache(like a supporter belt).
Also in matsuri(festivals) sarashi are worn under happi like a tube top both by men or women.
For kimono dressing also- sarashi can be used as a foundation to wrap around the breast to keep the part flatter to make a nice figreu for kimono wearing.(waistless line is considered to be good for kimono dressing).
Sarashi cotton is used to make many things also- and typical thing is babies diaper. The cotton becomes softer and softer by repeated washing.
