This is a large kesa, monk's gown made of kimono fabric, which was kosode of Edo Period( 1603-1867).
Tortoise, flying crane, wave and 'shou-chiku-bai'(pine tree, bamboo and ume blossom) motifs are dyed and embroidered elaborately. Please enjoy its fabulous details with more photos.
Textile is rinzu, silk with damask effect, and has soft touch.
It has a hole in the center part. Black threads are missing because of old age. Embroidery threads are coming loose in many parts.There are some other holes, tears, stains and smudges as photos show.
However it is still very valuable and beautiful piece!
We highly recommend this valuable Edo kosode kesa.
