This is a FABULOUS tsutsugaki from Meiji period(1868-1912) - carps are climbing the waterfall -- What a vivid and artistic touch it has!
In olden time, there is a steep waterfall called 'Ryumon' in China, and carps who climbed the waterfall was said to become a dragon.
These carps looks strong enogh to climb up the waterfall!
It is made of good cotton, and lined with navy blue cotton. It was futon cover, and its picture is dyed with tsutsugaki technique.
In olden time, people let their daughters have such futon cover and other items when they married. This piece's tsutsugaki is not usual piece. Owner had to be incredibly rich and had knowledge about art, and ordered this incredible piece.
Please enjoy its fabulous details with more photos.
It has some flaws as photos show, but as a whole it is in very good condition.
For the real connoisseurs!
