This is a vintage nobori bata, flag for boy's festival days.
This piece is made of medium thick cotton and has soft touch.
It has STUNNING Shouki-sama motif picture, which is drawn vividly like sumi-e picture.

This man is Shouki sama ---- he lived in China in ancient times. He studied hard, and went through
the civil servant examinations at top record. However the emperor feared his appearance, and reject him. Shouki-sama killed himself in despair. But afterward when the emperor got ill, he appeared in the emperor's dream, and got rid of hoodman. Shouki-sama said ' I killed myself. But I was burried reverently, so I decided to get rid of any trouble from this country.' Emperor regretted, and ordered a painter to draw Shouki, and enshrined him as a god. So here in Japan, Shouki-sama is enshrined as a god of entrance exam and apotropaism.
It has couple of small tears in the hem, some stains or smudges as photos show, but as a whole it is in very good condition.
