This is a stunning nobori bata, flag for boy's festival day from Meiji period(1868-1912).
It is made of thick cotton and has artistic samurai on the horse motif, which is dyed boldly. It looks like he is leading his samurai team for the war.
What a vivid and dynamic picture it is!
This nobori bata might have been longer before and cut after, but we are not sure. Yet this piece's design looks it is compldeted as it is now and is great for your interior display.
It has patina and smudge at places. There are also snags, stains, tear, and dyestuff at places. However, as a whole it is in very good condition.
