We have got design papers from a very old dyer's workshop in Shizuoka prefecture. All pictures are hand painted elaborately as kimono design.
Paper is 'washi', Japanese paper.
This picture was drawn as the dyeing sample for dyers. In olden times, dyers were considered only as artisan, and designers were the real artists and had to indicate designs to dyers. So the picture was drawn with very artistic touch - their lines are simple, but its touch is VERY skilled and you must tell it is a real art work!
It is considered to be from Meiji period(1868-1912).
It is in very good condition.
