This antique fukusa has unique vase motif, which is elaborately embroidered. It is from Meiji period(1868-1912).
You may wonder why the vase is broken- this motif has a story of first Qin Emperor in his boyhood.Story about this motif is like this - a long time ago in China, boys were playing around big an precious vase. One boy dropped in the vase, and they couldn't help him because the vase was too large for them. One boy ( who later became Shi Huangdi ) picked up a large rock, and threw it to the vase. Vase was broken, and water and drown boy were flowed, and he was helped.
Sometimes, motif DO NOT have characters but showing only some motif indicates the whole story.
Textile is navy shusu silk.
The right side has a stain near the right side hem and a pin hole. The other side has stains, a small hole and discoloration. However, as a whole it is in very good condition.
