This is an museum class Kurume kasuri cotton fabric. It has very unique large ship motif, which is hand woven elaborately. A bride ordered this kasuri to bring to her new home(it was a futon cover). Her family had to be very rich. What kind of hope the parents placed on this large ship motif? It was from Meiji period(1868-1912) or Taisho period(1912-1925). Textile has medium thickness and soft touch. Background color is navy. There are some flaws as photos show, but as a whole it is in very good condition. Hems and the other side is added solid ai dyed cotton ( it seemed to be added recently.) We had been looking for this type of Kurume kasuri but we couldn't for long time. This piece was from a kasuri collector. We are very happy to be able to offer this piece at our site! |
