Well, that's enough of my bad Japanese. I hope, someday, to go to grad school (maybe in Japan!) and do a cross-cultural study of Japanese and American women, and the issues they face as modern citizens of their respective countries. I think kimono are a fascinating statement of femininity, as well as Japanese culture. So much care and local history, packed into a garment...it is truly wearable art.

Charming Boat & Flowers Pale Blue Kimono

Item: Kimono
History: vintage
Condition: good
Fabric: silk
Technique: yuzen
Price: $58.00

Here, we have a time change coming up. The clock is set ahead one hour. It seems like a pretty pointless thing to do, but it all works out in the end.

I've done a bad, bad thing- I visited a website that sells lots of phone straps and I think I've become an addict. I just love keychains and stuff like that...I'm going to end up with a huge ball of these straps.

I think it'd be cute to fasten something like that to an obi, like netsuke and sagemono. It'd be pretty silly and probably against etiquette, though.

...however, didn't cell phone straps evolve from netsuke? XD Maybe it'd be something of a tribute.

This kimono has a nice pattern floating on the bottom...something very relaxing about those boats and swirls of white. I am still not sure how I feel about cutting kimono up for material, but if something is not in good condition and might be too frail to be worn, perhaps such "recycling" is a good way to preserve the art.
