This week I couldn't resist buying four obi design papers. Even though I don't collect these, nor do I collect obi, the sheets were too beautiful to ignor. This is one that I bought ICHIROYA
The next day, while glancing at a book titled "Japanese Costumes and Textile Arts" by Seiroku Noma, I found the same pattern, or close to it, on a sixteenth century kosode called the Temmon Kosode. Should I have expected this? Is this an often used and often repeated design? I don't know. But now I am even more eager to see the obi design papers in person.
